And although on the one hand, nothing the author said or suggested or cared deeply about astonished me or felt even slightly revelatory at least I came out of it feeling like a good mommy.

It is hard to read that you need to be more engaged with your child. I may be hit or miss about making sure my kid memorizes the abc’s in the proper order at a young age or gets their manners down pat but by golly I have the really key stuff in the bag! Stamm also emphasizes that as they grow, simple things around the house like socks, pots and pans, chalk and a driveway or footpath, flowers, stones, and leaves in the yard are often much more fun and educational that the latest high tech toy or DVD.
